2006 PLANS

Szigeti, Laszlo, Minister for Education: In the Slovak Republic we understand the International Peace day to be a feast day of world armistice and non-violence when at least once arms are silent and the entire international community has the opportunity to revere the peace in a common moment of world unity. We consider the day to be an exceptional opportunity for achievement of a wide appreciation of the necessity of peace, elimination of violence and conflict sources. It is a challenge for all nations and all people to end up with enmity. On this day the department of education focuses the attention of children and young people on the importance of world peace preservation. Elementary school pupils and high school students are engages in celebration of this feast day through games, competitions, lectures, discussions and other peace activities according to the needs of the organisers. On this day pupils and students of schools in the Slovak Republic commemorate the mission of this feast day in the teaching process and also in non-school activities. These activities reflect the age of the children and young people. Even if this is only a small step now, it can lead to massive changes in the future, provided each year more people join the heritage of the International day of Peace.
