All United Nations member countries agreed to celebrate September 21, The International Day of Peace as a Global Ceasefire and Day of Peace & Nonviolence in our homes, our communities and between nations. Peace Day has been a focal point for community-uniting and peace-inspiring events since its inception in 1981. Together we can create a more peaceful, just and sustainable world, one heart, one family, one community at a time. Join the Countdown To Peace and help inspire your community to create humanity's first day of peace, ever.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

  • Ask your favorite organization, group or religious institution to support the International Day of Peace
  • Plan or attend a Peace Day Event in your community (scheduled events include concerts, parades, marches, fasts, conferences, festivals, gatherings, service projects, ceremonies, children's activities such as peace art & essay contests and pinwheels for peace, Peace Day parties and peace vigils)
  • Ask your Mayor, City Council, Governor and Head of State to declare a Proclamation of Peace
  • Print out Flyers, Posters and other Resources

EVENT : Organizing an event called Krijten voor Vrede, where painters and public wiil make a huge streetpainting about peace. Misicians, rappers, and peots will be performing on an outdoor stage. Workshops and rituals will be held.

EVENT : Thursday September 21 is the International Day of Peace. There are events in all the big cities in the world. In Amsterdam this will happen on the roof of the NEMO science centre, under a pyramid of light. At 8 o’clock p.m. 4 strong lasers will beam into the universe from the banks of the Oosterdok. They will cross paths above the roof of the NEMO science centre, which will provide space for all the citizens of Amsterdam who choose for peace and toleration. People from every culture and religion will be invited. Meditating, singing, making music and dancing will lead to a special place of togetherness of multi-cultural Amsterdam, as an example to all the regions where people are fighting each other.
The city council of Amsterdam has decided to permit and support the Pyramid of Light, by financing the lasers. Science Centre NEMO has been found willing to open the roof for us. It is up to the people themselves to celebrate peace. All prayer and meditation groups, healers and shamans, poets, dancers, musicians and singers, and all the other people from Amsterdam are hereby invited to contribute to this contemporary demonstration of peace. The pyramid of light will be visible from 8 p.m. until midnight. The roof of NEMO will be opened until 11 p.m.

EVENT : The children of our school wrote a petition to the government of Holland, asking to make the international day of Peace a national holiday. The petition is online at: http://www.axci.nl/axci/index.php?ln=ned&show=petitie&id=97, and gathered 700 signatures within 48 ours. We hope to get to 40,000 by Thursday...
On the 21 st we will all go The Hague to the celebrate with others and hopefully to hand our petition to a member of the Dutch government.

2005- A 24 hour vigil for peace took place in front of the Peace Palace in The Hague. Many spiritual ceremonies took place including a world peace flag ceremony, wishing all of the countries 'May Peace Prevail On Earth.' The 100 participants were joined by the flow of visitors to the Peace Palace throughout the day.
