2006 PLANS

The Government of the Principality of Monaco: I have the pleasure to inform you that the government of Monaco, through the Management of the National Education of Youth and Sports and considering the importance of the theme of peace expressed by HSH Prince Albert II to the international authorities, has put on the curriculum of all elementary and secondary schools of Monaco this year the following three fundamental texts : the UN Resolution 55/282, the HSH Prince’s speech on 12 July 2005 and the texts referring to the Olympic truce. In primary schools, numerous activities in literature, music education and visual arts increased awareness on the theme of peace during this Day of 21 September 2005. Following the various reactions arising from it, Peace exhibitions presenting extracts from the studied documents and illustrations were held in schools. In secondary schools, numerous debates were organized. A link was made between history, civic education and Monegasque identity programmes. Teachers insisted particularly on the role played by Prince Albert 1st of Monaco, Founder of the International Peace Institute, on the commitment of HSH Prince Albert II which was underlined in his accession speech. Pupils, aware of their luck to live in a state where peace prevails, think that everybody can take part by supporting actions from international organizations, NGOs and humanitarian associations whose aim is to promote Peace and that the Principality also has a role to play. You will therefore note that the Principality continues its education programme amongst the youths in the field of human rights and peace, as my predecessors had informed you. Of course, this action is part of a larger educational project to promote the respect of human rights whose principles, rights and duties the principality is very keen to defend.
