All United Nations member countries agreed to celebrate September 21, The International Day of Peace as a Global Ceasefire and Day of Peace & Nonviolence in our homes, our communities and between nations. Peace Day has been a focal point for community-uniting and peace-inspiring events since its inception in 1981. Together we can create a more peaceful, just and sustainable world, one heart, one family, one community at a time. Join the Countdown To Peace and help inspire your community to create humanity's first day of peace, ever.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

  • Ask your favorite organization, group or religious institution to support the International Day of Peace
  • Plan or attend a Peace Day Event in your community (scheduled events include concerts, parades, marches, fasts, conferences, festivals, gatherings, service projects, ceremonies, children's activities such as peace art & essay contests and pinwheels for peace, Peace Day parties and peace vigils)
  • Ask your Mayor, City Council, Governor and Head of State to declare a Proclamation of Peace
  • Print out Flyers, Posters and other Resources

2006 PLANS

BISHKEK
United Nations Association of the Kyrgyz Republic (UNAKR): We plan to hold a number of events informing the public of Kyrgyzstan about Peace One Day and the about the planned action called One sky, one Sun, one Earth for everyone!" before September 21st. The events include the work with mass media, propaganda of the event by the youth group of the UNAKR among the members of NGOs, schools and universities. We plan to hold the Minute of Unity in Bishkek on September 21st. The slogan of the event, as we mentioned before, read as follows: One sky, one Sun, one Earth for everyone!" The UNAKR in close cooperation with the UN Mission in the Kyrgyz Republic intend to encourage all the representatives of local communities, diplomatic missions and international organizations residing in Bishkek to let out in the sky the balloons with appeals to the world and non-use of violence. Representatives of the UNAKR will attend the activities of each of the organizations taking part in event. At the same time we plan to expose the text of the message of the people of Kyrgyzstan to the people of the world at the Central square of Bishkek. Everyone will have on opportunity to sign it and leave his or her own message to the world community. Also we plan to let the balloons out in the sky at 10 a.m. Bishkek time.
