IRAQ

All United Nations member countries agreed to celebrate September 21, The International Day of Peace
as a Global Ceasefire and Day of Peace & Nonviolence in our homes,
our communities and between nations. Peace Day has been a focal point
for community-uniting and peace-inspiring events since its inception
in 1981.
Together we can create a more peaceful, just and sustainable world,

Iraqi
Youth Civil Dialogue: The Iraqi Youth Civil Dialogue project works
in Iraq by the support of Iraqi Al-Amal Association, we have a meeting
in Kurdistan in Iraq from 19 till 21 September 2006, to discuss Iraqi
youth problems, issues, and their role in Iraq’s future. On September
21st we plan to celebrate Peace Day by having a memorial for Iraqi
youth and students who lost their lives in terrorist attacks, and
after that we will go and plant olive trees to declare a symbol for
each Iraqi youth group in the meeting. We will name the tree after
the group so we will grow peace as long these trees grow we also plan
for young people to participate in the celebration in their own ways
of expressing their need for peace.

Kurdistan
Worker’s Party (PKK): Iraq-based Kurdish separatists from the PKK
have offered a conditional ceasefire to Turkey. One of the group’s
leaders said: "We are ready to observe a ceasefire and opt for a peaceful
and democratic settlement to the Kurdish issues in Turkey. The offer
has come in response to many requests by the government of Kurdish
Iraq and the other Kurdish circles, and responding to the US State
Department. There must be a political project so that we can start
dialogue. We are ready for a ceasefire on 21 September coinciding
with Peace Day". .
