Peace Day 2007
HONG KONG

All United Nations member countries agreed to celebrate September 21, The International Day of Peace as a Global Ceasefire and Day of Peace & Nonviolence in our homes, our communities and between nations. Peace Day has been a focal point for community-uniting and peace-inspiring events since its inception in 1981. Together we can create a more peaceful, just and sustainable world, one heart, one family, one community at a time. Join the Countdown To Peace and help inspire your community to create humanity's first day of peace, ever.

EVENT:
We have declared September Peace Month at our Middle School and are planning various activities to raise awareness and promote peace.
Wong, Eric; Hong Kong: I am currently initiating a Culture of Peace photography project in Hong Kong with The Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, in dedication to both The International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of The World as well as the International Day for Peace and Ceasefire that takes place on 21stSeptember. The idea of this project is to gather 105 photos based on the guidelines of the Manifesto 2000 drew up by a group of Nobel Peace Laureates. We deliberately decided on choosing 105 photos to echo the 105th anniversary of The Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong this year, and the theme of the year is "Care & Harmony". We are encouraging people from all walks of life in Hong Kong to participate in this project, so as to signify the philosophy of "Thinking Globally and Acting Locally". In conjunction to this project, we will sponsor some digital cameras for those who are financially incapable of buying one but have the passion and enthusiasms for this project, also we will be holding photography workshops and seminars to talk about the concept behind this project as well as introducing the Banner of Peace. www.peacethroughunity.info/banner_ofpeace.html#proposal
After the selection process of photographs, all selected works will be used to produce a collage and a short film for exhibition at different venues in Hong Kong. The opening ceremony for the exhibition will take place on 21stSeptember2006 in dedication to The International Day for Peace and Ceasefire. A photo album/ poster will be published at a later stage for the purpose of fund raising for the follow up programmes, as well as spreading the message of The Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of The World to a wider public. I believe the intention and the actions taken to gather people from around the world to contribute their ideas, thoughts and activities in dedication of world peace is something we must reinforce and strengthen in order to bring about a culture that overcomes all the differences among us, a culture of the heart. So that our next generation could grow up and live in a harmonized and safe society.
