City of Excellence School, (ACES) will help promote International
Day of Peace by sharing a very special and memorable ceremony
on September 21, 2006, so ACES Students, Families, City Officials
and Community Members can experience the significance of peace.
Guests include the Aventura Mayor Susan Gottlieb and Aventura
City Manager Eric Soroka, the Aventura City Commissioners, WLRN-TV
host Meredith Porte, the ACES Living Values Education Program
volunteers, ACES Students and Families. Mayor Gottlieb will present
a proclamation declaring September 21 as International Peace Day
in the City of Aventura. The ceremony includes; beautiful music,
displays of Peace Day projects created by ACES students, a peace
song by the ACES Chorus, Principal Dr. Katherine Bray Murphy discussing
ACES Award winning "Human Rights" Curriculum that embodies the
value of peace and a multi-media presentation by students on Peace.
Key Note speaker, TV Host, Meredith Porte, Coordinator for Voices
of Hope, S. Florida will share her view on the roll we each can
play in making Peace a reality. To culminate the ceremony, Community
leaders, ACES staff, volunteers, students and families will enjoy
"Peace Day Cake." Prior to Peace Day, ACES classrooms are working
together to create their own Peace Day Projects to display for
the ceremony. This has created awareness by engaging, and educating
our students on the magnitude of this holiday and event.

have recently moved into a new building and are relocating our Peace
Garden. On September 21st our students, staff, and parents will
be rededicating our Peace Pole and garden by replanting several
memorial plants that were part of our original garden. Students
from each grade level will conduct different activities such as
releasing butterflies, flying peace doves that they have made, walking
a "Peace Walk" lined with 108 international flags, laying
down garden stones that each classroom has made, and planting special
seeds around our Peace Pole. Our mayor has written a proclamation,
declaring our city as a participant in the International Day of
Peace and this proclamation will be read at our ceremony. We will
celebrate together with music, poetry, and pledges that our students
have written. |

give out certicates to the "Peacemakers of the Month", sing

4:00 P.M.in the Higby Gallery at the Visual Art Center in Panama
City. We are asking that each mayor also bring awareness to their
communities about this special Day of Peace. Gulf Coast Woman's
Club is going to attend Northside School for the 2nd year to celebrate
September 21st. The Fifth grade classes (125 students) will begin
at 12 noon with a minute of silence. Five Gulf Coast Woman's
Club members will read and discuss the Peace Day Book in individual
class rooms. The students have already made pin wheels and have
worked on conflict resolution. Their is an essay contest on "WHY
DO YOU THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO CELEBRATE AN INTERNATIONAL DAY OF
PEACE? First and second place wnners will be announced from each
class. Cupcakes with International Flags will be served. The media
has been invited to attend both events and PSA'S have also been

International World Peace Day, approximately 500,000 pinwheels were
spinning in over 1,350 locations throughout the world! Pinwheels
for Peace is an art installation project started in 2005 by two
Art teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, who teach at Monarch
High School in Coconut Creek, as a way for students to express their
feelings about what’s going on in the world and in their lives.
