In Peace,

Mussie Hailu

On the Celebration of the International Day of Peace (September 21 as proclaimed by the United Nations) and in the Commemoration of the 60 Anniversary of the Hereby made this
Personal Pledge for Peace and Non-violence

I, as a  Citizen of this World, acknowledge that world peace is only possible when I start to make peace within myself, my family and in my respective communities. Therefore on this International Day of Peace I commit myself as best as I can to become peaceful and a non-violent person

To this effect, I pledge,

v    To respect my self, to affirm others and to avoid uncaring criticism, hurtful words, physical attacks
and self-destructive behavior

v    To share my feelings honestly, to look for safe ways to express my anger, and to work at solving problems peacefully

v    To listen carefully to others, especially those who dialogue with me, and to consider others' feelings and needs, rather than insist on having my own way

v    To apologize and make amends when I hurt another, to forgive others, and to keep from holding grudges

v    To treat the environment and all living things, including animals, with respect and care

v    To avoid entertainment that features violence

v    To challenge violence in all its forms whenever I encounter it, whether at home, at school, at work, or in the community

v    To respect and uphold the Universal Human Right Declaration

v    To live by, uphold and guide by the Golden Rule (to treat others as we wish others to treat us) and use it as my motto and principle in life

v    To use the universal peace prayer of MAY PEACE PREVAIL ON EARTH in all my activities and as part of my daily meditation
