There
is a sub government commission in Costa Rica working for the honoring
of this day. It is called Sub Comisión Nacional para el Día Internacional
de la Paz. This proposal was presented and accepted by this commission.
Different campaigns are presented to celebrate this day:
Peace
Education Campaign
A proposal was submitted to the Ministry of Education. It proposes
that educators dedicate a lesson to reflect upon the topic of a
Culture of Peace with their students, and the way Costa Ricans identify
themselves with this concept. there is a motto made up by Maribel
Muñoz with the purpose of motivating people to wear white on 21
September. This motto is being included in all campaigns the commission
is working on. As Costa Ricans usually wear red color when the national
soccer teams performs, the slogan states: “Si te pusiste la roja
por la sele, ponete la blanca por la paz” (I you wore the red T-shirt
for the Costa Rican team in the World Cup, wear the white one for
Peace)
Interfaith
Campaign
The proposal addressed to the religious sector of the country includes
communication with the Episcopal Conference of Costa Rica among
other religious groups. They have been requested a special petition
to “Ring the Bells for Peace” on Thursday 21 September at 6:00 p.m.
as an expression of the Church’s commitment with a Culture of Peace
in Costa Rica Our primary target is “to encourage praying for peace
and nonviolence on the International Day of Peace in each church,
synagogue, mosque or any other place of spiritual practice by religious
groups and spiritual based individuals seeking for peace." Besides
this request, all religious groups were asked to include in their
main service, previous to 21 September, a message around peace and
building peace in Costa Rica
Mass
Media Campaign
It turns out high-priority to approach mass media with the purpose
of creating awareness about the reality in which we live, as well
as the promotion of a Culture of Peace. Different means of communication
are being contacted to celebrate the importance that Costa Rica
was one of its main promoters
Peace
Concert Campaign
We are planning to celebrate with a concert. Meetings with the Municipality
of San Jose have launched the possible location to the concert:
Centro Nacional de la Cultura (CENAC); different artists have been
contacted to collaborate and participate at no charge. The concert
could offer, in addition to music, an opportunity for reflections
on peace.
Ceremony
It is proposed to have a ceremony on 21 September, where different
governmental institutions will gather to reflect upon peace on that
day.
