Peace
Day 2007
COOK ISLANDS

All
United Nations member countries agreed to celebrate September 21, The
International Day of Peace as a Global Ceasefire and Day of Peace &
Nonviolence in our homes, our communities and between nations. Peace
Day has been a focal point for community-uniting and peace-inspiring
events since its inception in 1981.
Together we can create a more peaceful, just and sustainable world,
one heart, one family, one community at a time. Join the Countdown To

Prime
Minister of the Cook Islands, Hon. Jim Marurai: Peace Day is an
important initiative, which the Government and people of the Cook
Islands will observe in the true spirit of global unity and togetherness.
This year, I am pleased to advise you that our commitment is already
taking shape in the form of special events, which will be held over
the course of two days, in September. Our Peace Council – a committee
stemming from the local branch of the Pan Pacific South East Asian
Women’s Association – is working closely with Government to stage
a concert involving school children, on 19 September. The evening
concert, titled 'Te Au i Parataito' (Peace in Paradise), will be a
curtain-raiser for our Peace One Day campaign, which will be marked
by a special Peace Presentation at the Peace Garden, on 21 September.
I shall be encouraging the active participation of Government Ministers
and officials in the campaign, so as to lift its profile and practical
application as much as possible, and to ensure the Cook Islands joins
the international community in celebrating the success of Peace One
Day around the world.
